Cameroon Launches First “Intelligent Classroom” In Partnership With CWEIC And Promethean
A Major Milestone for Cameroon’s Education System
Cameroon has taken an important step toward modernizing its education system with the inauguration of the country’s first “Intelligent Classroom” at Lycée Général Leclerc in Yaoundé. This groundbreaking initiative marks a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to integrate digital technology into public education.
The classroom was officially commissioned on 3 March 2026 by Cameroon’s Prime Minister and Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute, during a ceremony attended by senior government officials and international partners. The event also welcomed Lord Marland, Chairman of the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC), and Simon Leung, Chairman of Promethean, a global leader in educational technology.
This initiative reflects Cameroon’s growing commitment to transforming teaching and learning through digital innovation.
A Strong Partnership for Educational Transformation
The Intelligent Classroom project represents a successful collaboration between the Government of Cameroon, CWEIC, and Promethean. The classroom was fully equipped and donated by Promethean, in partnership with CWEIC, to the Ministry of Secondary Education.
The project serves as a flagship example of how public–private partnerships and international cooperation can help modernize education systems and expand access to digital learning tools in developing economies.
By introducing advanced educational technology into public schools, the initiative aims to improve classroom engagement, enhance teaching methods, and better prepare students for the demands of the digital age.
Supporting Cameroon’s National Development Strategy 2030
The Intelligent Classroom forms part of Cameroon’s broader National Development Strategy 2030, which prioritizes the digitalization of key sectors, including education.
During the commissioning ceremony, Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute highlighted the importance of this initiative in preparing students for a modern, skills-based economy. According to him, integrating digital tools into classrooms will play a crucial role in strengthening the country’s human capital and ensuring that young people acquire the skills required for future employment.
He also emphasized that collaboration between the government, the private sector, and international organizations such as the Commonwealth network demonstrates how strategic partnerships can support national education priorities while delivering practical solutions for digital learning.
