Cameroon Launches First Intelligent Classroom at Lycée Général Leclerc

Cameroon has marked a historic milestone in its education sector with the inauguration of the first-ever Intelligent Classroom in the history of secondary education in the country. The landmark facility was officially inaugurated at Lycée Général Leclerc de Yaoundé by the Prime Minister and Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute, who represented the Head of State during the ceremony.

The Intelligent Classroom project is the result of a strategic partnership between Cameroon and the Commonwealth of Nations through the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council, in collaboration with the global education technology company Promethean. The initiative reflects Cameroon’s commitment to modernizing its education system and integrating advanced digital learning tools into classrooms.

Speaking during the inauguration, Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute described the intelligent learning space as a major step toward transforming the country’s education landscape. According to him, the project reflects the vision of the President of the Republic, Paul Biya, who continues to promote policies that convert innovative ideas into practical solutions for national development.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the Intelligent Classroom represents a new generation of learning spaces designed to prepare students for the realities of the digital age. Considered one of its kind on the African continent, the facility integrates modern educational technologies that encourage interactive learning, innovation, and improved teaching methods.

Beyond its technological features, the Intelligent Classroom is also expected to promote equity in education by providing students with access to advanced digital tools and resources. Education authorities believe that such innovations will help transform theoretical knowledge into practical competencies, enabling students to develop the skills necessary to become leaders in innovation and contributors to the global knowledge economy.

The high-profile inauguration ceremony brought together key national and international stakeholders in the education sector. Among the distinguished guests present was Jonathan Peter Marland, Chairman of the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council, alongside members of government, education officials, development partners, and students.

The project forms part of the broader digitization strategy of Cameroon’s secondary education system, aimed at strengthening digital literacy and improving learning outcomes nationwide. By integrating technology-driven solutions into schools, the government hopes to create a modern educational environment capable of meeting the demands of the 21st century.

With the launch of the Intelligent Classroom at Lycée Général Leclerc, Cameroon has taken a bold step toward redefining education through technology and innovation. The initiative stands as a symbol of the country’s ambition to build a future-ready generation equipped with the knowledge, skills, and creativity needed to thrive in the digital era.
