Prime Minister Dion Ngute Hails Smart Classroom Initiative as Transformational for Cameroon
Cameroon is taking significant strides toward modernizing its education system as the Prime Minister and Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute, described the newly inaugurated smart classroom initiative as a transformative step for the country’s future.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony at Lycée Général Leclerc de Yaoundé, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of integrating digital technologies into education to prepare young Cameroonians for a rapidly evolving global economy. The smart classroom project represents a forward-looking investment aimed at strengthening digital literacy, innovation, and technological competence among students.
The ceremony gathered several members of government and education stakeholders who witnessed the unveiling of the modern learning space equipped with advanced digital tools. The initiative is part of broader efforts by the government to align the country’s education sector with global technological trends and ensure students gain practical exposure to emerging technologies.
A key figure behind the initiative is Nalova Lyonga, whose leadership within the Ministry of Secondary Education has focused on promoting innovation and modernization in schools. Under her guidance, the project was implemented as part of ongoing reforms designed to improve teaching methods and learning outcomes across the country.
According to officials, the smart classroom will allow teachers and students to interact with cutting-edge technologies, including artificial intelligence-supported learning tools, digital content platforms, and interactive teaching systems. These resources are expected to enhance engagement in the classroom while also helping students develop essential skills in science, technology, and digital problem-solving.
The event also highlighted the importance of collaboration between government institutions and parliamentary oversight bodies. Members of the education committee of the National Assembly of Cameroon were present to witness the initiative, reflecting the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability in major national projects.
Prime Minister Dion Ngute noted that initiatives like the smart classroom represent more than just infrastructure development. They symbolize Cameroon’s ambition to build a knowledge-based society capable of competing in a technology-driven world.
As the country continues its push toward digital transformation, the successful implementation of smart classrooms could pave the way for similar projects nationwide. If expanded, such initiatives may significantly improve educational quality while equipping the next generation with the tools required to innovate, lead, and thrive in the 21st century.
With sustained investment and strategic leadership, Cameroon’s education sector appears poised for a new era where technology and learning go hand in hand.
